Why did we choose CheapLimoRates.com name? Was it to personify our industry as a taxi cab service? No. In fact, our reasons were exactly the opposite. In order to give our consumers an incentive to search our site and give our Limousine Partners the greatest exposure, we searched thousands of travel search keywords that get consumers to click on a site. The word Cheap is a word that gets people to take a look. There are thousands of consumers looking for great deals in the sagging economy and by listing your prices, right along with your competitors you are setting your prices based on your unused vehicles, your service levels and your scheduling needs. Because we focus on the unscheduled vehicle inventory and services you have sitting in the garage, you may be able to give the consumer a great deal. Our site is very market based, so what is a good deal in one area of the country, may not be in another. You set your rates, we do not price control. Your price your inventory based on what your local market can bear. Limousine Industry Taking “Right” Turn

I have read a lot of forums lately among the owners and providers of limousine services and I am overwhelmed by the inflexible pricing policies of most of the industry providers. In the current economic climate limousine executives need to utilize any method available to increase business volume and maintain profits, while keeping up their level of service.
If you would imagine for a moment that our industry is in flux and then realize that other industries within the travel sector have endured similar trials, and then ask yourself, how did they solve the dilemma?
The answer to that question is that, whether airlines or hotels and to some extent the rental car companies, they all banded together and utilized technology to sell their excess inventory at any price in order to become successful. Whether a Motel 6 or the Hyatt Regency, Whether a premier airline or a discount provider, they all knew that getting those rooms filled or those planes full, was paramount to their success at any price. These companies are very large and their CEO’s are making these big decisions in order to ensure their companies ultimate success. Is it a Matter of Economics

I find myself sometimes at a loss nowadays. I was brought into the limousine industry quite by accident and as is my want, I took the time to learn the industry inside and out. In my tenure within the industry I have discovered a litany of paradigm that exist amongst limousine providers that boggles the mind.
One of the first of these odd behaviors that I encountered was how some of the providers in industry have resolute beliefs that they will not, cannot and won’t be seen as a commodity. I really found that fascinating, because a commodity is describe as product, goods, trade item or service that is exchanged for monetary gain. So when I came across providers who would devoutly state that they were not going to allow their clients to see them as a commodity, I thought they had really, truly lost their minds. I am sure you can understand my confusion.

I had someone explain to me that within the industry, many providers want to be seen as a value added service and the epitome of ultimate in luxury and achievement. In my multi-faceted career I have worked within industries that exuded exactly that, however, they recognized that they were in fact a marketable commodity and therefore they presented themselves to their clientele as such. The limousine industry has for some reason refused to grasp the basic concepts of economics and the power of supply and demand.
I fear for an industry that believes they can somehow rise above the reality of our current economic slowdown and weather this rapidly oncoming storm of financial disaster and resolutely stand by their old paradigms. Change is not only coming, but it is coming with a vengeance and when it arrives, if you are not on the cutting edge of technology, if you are holding to outdated ideas of this industry, then a lot of operators within the industry are going to fail.
I work daily with a company that is trying to solve the current problems faced by the industry, through a powerful technology that will allow providers to reach out to their clients in real time as never before and to increase their customer base as never before. However, this new technology is only valuable to those within the industries who are looking for higher profits and understand that change is coming and in order to survive, we as an industry must change as well.
